REVIEW:
This film is a fantasy “shoot em up ” , but Ryan Reynolds and Sam Jackson are having so much fun, the interaction between the actors make up for any ” shortcomings “in the script . Reynold’s plays London_based security expert Michael , who’s high flying career was derailed two years ago and Stubbornly refuses to get back on track . Then his Interpol Agent ex-girlfriend Amelia ( Elodie yung )offers him a job , escorting the ruthless assassin Darius ( Jackson ) from his British prison cell to the Hague , where he he’s needed to testify against murderous Belarusian warlord Dukhovich (Gary Oldman ) in a war-crimes trial . So far, Dukhovich’s militia has made sure no witnesses have made it to the courtroom .
So Michael has his work cut out for him , meanwhile Darius is trying to get in touch with his wife , Sonia (Selma Hayek ) who is in prison in Amsterdam and lovingly calls him a un killable cockroach .
The pace of the film is “fast paced” but not so fast that you can’t keep up. Amid the frenzied pacing and wacky characters , Tom O’Connor ‘s script somehow also manages to layer in a few intriguing undercurrents . The romantic elements are surprisingly warm and there’s a knowing exploration of this clash between a hitman who kills bad guys and a bodyguard who protects them . These things are easily missed amid the effects , ceaseless carnage and iffy digital effects but they make the movie so enjoyable that by the time it reaches it’s ludicrously overblown climax . maybe a franchise is Born..
Overall I give the film 4 out of 5 stars , get your popcorn ready ..
